About

The Open University – the largest university in Israel – is the only University in the country which does not have collective agreements with its staff. During more than 30 years of operation, the teaching staff of the OU is employed by means of personal contracts and in depriving working conditions, which include, among others, being fired every semester. In February 2008 we started to organize through "Power to the Workers- A Democratic workers Union", and since October our representatives have been negotiating with the OU management. The management is refusing so far to commit to signing a collective agreement. Without such an agreement, the motivation to fire benefited workers with a short notice is large. As a result, we announced a labor dispute two weeks ago. The management didn't show yet any readiness to sign a collective agreement with us. Therefore, we are beginning to carry out organizational measures, including strikes and sanctions. Join us! Support us here and in our activities at the teaching centers.
